Are you debating what the value of a social media compaign would be for your business? Has the dispute over the advantage of a social media campaign left you unsure about what action to take?

This writing will provide some insight into this controversy and some points to consider when deciding the ideal strategy for your business.

SM is a means of connecting with people, and it supports the need for human interaction. The typical tools of SM include Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

There are two sides of the debate over the true value of SM to businesses.

Proponents say:
Business owners can no longer ignore SM. It has been experiencing a surge in participation. Consequently, it is getting tougher to maintain a business online without participating in SM.

The Cons:
SM marketing is very labor-intensive, and the ROI (return on investment) is difficult to measure. Some people think social media is all about conversations not conversions.

My opinion is that a successful SM campaign is based on the business niche and the proper execution.

Your social media campaign will depend on:

1.  Your objectives
2.  Your target
3.  Your resources

1.  Your objections? What do you want to accomplish with a social media campaign?

You must be able to calculate your results and clearly define what you want to accomplish with your SM campaign.

2.  Who is your target audience?

You should know your target market and their needs before you implement a social media campaign. Then you should targret your audience and determine which sites are most closely related to your business, company or product.

3.  Your assets?

You can set up an account for free on most SM sites.  However, you’ll have to invest time to respond to questions and posts, and to do results-tracking; unless you hire a VA.

In conclusion, a social media strategy can be a powerful, low cost, strategy to generate traffic to your site.  It should be incorporated into your marketing mix. However, your success is based on how well you implement the social media campaign and whether your business is ideal for this marketing media.
